What I’ve learned from road trips

I love to travel when I have time. The open road is interesting, but it can also have its hazards. Whether traveling solo or with a buddy, you should always let someone know where you’re going. If you haven’t figured out exactly where the road will take you, that’s okay too. Just make sure you have someone you can check in with.
Once you have gathered your travel items, phone, and necessary snacks, check your spare tire, fill up your tank and be on your merry way. When you’re on the road and the sign says “last gas station”, believe it! Running out of gas does not make for a memorable adventure. Trust me. With some newer vehicles, you may not even be able to get it restarted by yourself if you’ve run it dry.
If your vehicle is electric, you may want to carry an emergency charger to give you a couple of extra miles until you can find a charging station. It’s a good idea to map out a few charging stations on your route. Driving electric still takes a bit more planning than a gas vehicle
Keep a spare car door key on your body. There’s no need to spend money for an extra key fob if you’ve locked your keys in. The door handle will work with a regular key, but you may need to pull the cover off the handle to access the slot. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket or sock. If you don’t have one, ask your car dealer or stop by an auto parts store and pick one up.
Those are just a few of my favorite safety tips while traveling.
Now, get out on the road and see some stuff!
